When to seek medical attention
It is wise to alert the midwife in the following situations:
- In case of heavy bleeding (prolonged and more than a normal menstrual period). You should seek medical attention, especially if you have complaints of seeing stars or fainting.
- For persistent complaints. If you continue to have cramping pain and/or heavy bleeding, this may indicate an incomplete miscarriage. There is then still a remainder of the pregnancy.
- In case of fever. A temperature of 38 degrees or higher may indicate an inflammation in the uterus, which may need to be treated with antibiotics.
- For questions and/or concerns
Tips.
What is useful to have at home or to have with you when you are away from home?
- Sanitary pads (no tampons)
- Pain relief such as paracetamol
- Telephone number of your midwife
- Clean underwear if necessary
If you want to take care of the child/fruit?
- Then make sure you pee through a colander or sieve into the toilet so that you don't accidentally flush the baby/fruit down the toilet.
Water method?
- To see the baby/fruit properly, you can place it in a bowl of cold water. This way it unfolds back to the shape (and color) it had in your womb. www.watermethod.nl
Register?
- If desired, you can have the child added to the municipality's Personal Register.
