ANTICONCEPTIE

After childbirth, the menstrual cycle resumes. It is difficult to predict when you will have your first period again. Some women get their period 4 weeks after giving birth, while others only after stopping breastfeeding. The fertile period is two weeks before the period. This means you can already be fertile without even knowing it.

Postpartum recovery takes about nine months. It is nice to recover from a pregnancy before the next one comes around.

There are different ways to affect fertility. This can be done with or without medication, and the reliability varies depending on the method.

Methods without medication.

  • Condoms
  • Pessary
  • Copper coil
  • Sterilization of man or woman

Methods with medication, not suitable during breastfeeding (due to estrogens and progestogens)

  • Contraceptive patch
  • Contraceptive ring

Methods with medication, suitable for breastfeeding (progestogens only)

CONTRACEPTION CONSULTATION

You can contact us for a contraceptive consultation

Every woman is different. Your body might respond best to a particular contraceptive, while the same method might not work at all for another woman. Moreover, everyone has their own preferences and desires. Furthermore, the contraceptive that works well for you now might not work as well for you in a few years. During your contraceptive consultation, we can discuss with you which contraceptive method is suitable for you.

Most insurers will reimburse this consultation, which will take approximately 20 minutes.

If desired, we will write a prescription for the contraceptive you choose. We can also arrange for the insertion of an IUD; a separate appointment will be scheduled for this. After the consultation, there will always be a follow-up appointment to assess whether the chosen contraceptive is suitable.

SPIRALS

We can place spirals ourselves at the practice. Here You can find more information about coils and/or their placement at our practice.

A significant number of women are reluctant to have an IUD inserted; 18-30% of women choose not to have one due to fear of pain. 42% of women would reconsider an IUD if the insertion were less painful.

Titus Health Care has provided the following for this purpose: CAREVIX developed

Carevix is a gentle, woman-friendly alternative to the traditional intercourse device. This innovative device uses suction technology to grasp the cervix, which causes less pain and bleeding than traditional intercourse devices.

Carevix reduces pain, bleeding, and satisfaction among women. This increases comfort and reduces anxiety during IUD insertion, lowering the barrier for women to choose one of the most reliable contraceptive methods: an IUD.

You can indicate when you want the Carevix to be used during the placement of the IUD, but the costs for this are at your own expense.

The Carevix costs 49.95 euros

MORNING-AFTER IUD

It can happen to anyone: you suddenly discover you've had sex without adequate protection against pregnancy. For example, you might have forgotten to take your pill for a few days, the condom broke, or you spontaneously had sex without contraception. To prevent pregnancy, you can choose a morning-after pill or a morning-after IUD as emergency contraception.

A copper coil is the most reliable Morning-after method. With a copper IUD, you choose emergency contraception without hormones. After insertion of a copper IUD, you immediately have reliable contraception for up to 10 years (T-Safe).

A copper IUD must be inserted by a doctor or midwife within 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected sex. The chance of becoming pregnant after insertion of a copper IUD is 0,1%This makes the copper IUD the most effective form of emergency contraception.

IMPLANON

You can also contact us for the placement of an Implanon

Implanon is a contraceptive implant. This implant is placed on the inside of your upper arm, often in your non-dominant arm.

The Implanon contains only one hormone, etonogestrel. This hormone suppresses ovulation. It's released in consistent doses, so there are no peaks or troughs. This can cause your period to change, decrease, or even stop altogether.

The Implanon works for 3 years.

If you wish to have children or need your Implanon replaced, you can also come to us to have the rod removed and, if necessary, we can immediately insert a new one.

An Implanon can be inserted immediately after delivery. However, we recommend allowing your body some time to recover hormonally first and then having an Implanon inserted after at least 6 weeks.

The hormone implant is inserted using a specially designed insertion device with a needle attached to the implant. Implanon is inserted just under the skin between two muscles in the upper arm. Before the implant is inserted, the skin is thoroughly anesthetized.

The Implanon costs 130 euros.
