After the baby has been imaged with a 2D ultrasound and the position is clear, extra color is added to the cross-section with a 3D ultrasound. You will then see three dimensions (3D), namely length, width and depth. While with a 2D ultrasound you look through your child, as it were, with a 3D ultrasound you look around it. So, for example, everything that lies in front of the baby's face can be seen with a 3D ultrasound. By combining the 3D images with 4D ultrasound, you get moving 3D images. This makes it a 'live' experience to watch your baby.

The best time to plan this special experience of a 3D/4D is between 24 – 28 weeks, preferably around 26-27 weeks. Please note that the quality of the images always depends on the position of the baby and the placenta and on the thickness of the pregnant woman's abdominal wall. Our preference is to perform these ultrasounds when the bladder is full. This increases the chance of even clearer images. There is a 70% chance that the ultrasound will be successful, if the images cannot be captured in 3D or 4D, the sonographer will determine whether a 2D ultrasound indication will be made.

The photos that you often see on the internet and also on this site are optimal images. By this we mean a very favorable position of the baby, a slim pregnant woman and possibly not the first pregnancy, which makes the wall of the uterus more flexible. So do not see these photos as a comparison for your own 3/4D ultrasound.

With this ultrasound you will receive images and videos digitally sent to your phone and of course a number of printouts.
